More Than I Imagined For you are great and do wondrous things, you alone are God. Psalms 86:10 I don’t know why I doubt Him. He has never let me down before. He is always on time with exactly what I need, when I need it -no matter what. Five years ago my small ladies’ running group took on the momentous task of organizing a 5k race to raise money for an organization that was helping rescue and restore young victims of sex trafficking. I have participated in many races but had never been involved in organizing one before. It was a daunting task to say the least. Our bank account balance was zero and our estimated expenditures were $5,000. We named our race the Porch Light 5k, after the organization we were supporting, adopted the catchphrase run, rescue, restore and got to work. We gathered during our weekly run club meeting, circled up, grasped hands and prayed. We prayed for God’s guidance and blessing. We prayed for wisdom. We prayed for provision. We prayed for donors. We prayed for participants. We prayed for each other. Most of all, we prayed for the victims. Like assembling a 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle, we didn’t know how all the pieces would fit together, but we knew that at the end of our faithful effort there would be a completed picture waiting to be celebrated. That first year brought about 225 runners and $13,000 -$5,000 was donated up front to pay for the cost of the race. The next year came with a matching donor and our $20,000 made $40,000. The third year brought the most runners, 370, raising awareness of sex trafficking, but not raising as much money. Last year, I’m not going to lie, was hard and I almost quit. But God showed up again and we sent a little over $7,000 to continue rescuing victims of exploitation. We are in our fifth year of this and God is even more incredible than ever before. The Porch Light 5k is eight days away and we have already raised $18,000. Y’all, we haven’t even held our event yet! “For you, O Lord, are good and forgiving, abounding in steadfast love to all who call upon you” (Psalms 86:5). God is so good. He is so faithful. He is so trustworthy. Why do I ever doubt Him? “There is none like you among the gods, O Lord, nor are there any works like yours…For you are great and do wondrous things, you alone are God” (Psalms 86:8, 10). I can’t wait to see what God does on April 28, 2018. I am so excited.
